In addition to the following services:

  • Determining Suitability for Contracting The government marketplace poses unique challenges that can overwhelm or even ruin a company that does not have the maturity or resources to meet them. Our advisors can help determine if your company is ready for government opportunities and how to best position it for success.
  • Securing Necessary Registrations Advisors are available to help ensure registration with the various databases necessary to participate in the government marketplace, including the Department of Defense’s System Award Management (SAM), the SBA’s Dynamic Small Business Search, and other government vendor databases.
  • SDB, 8(a), HUBZone, WOSB and other Certifications Certain small businesses are eligible for preferred status in some government solicitations. A PTAC specialist can help determine if your company is eligible for certain certifications and guide you through the steps necessary to secure them.
  • Researching Procurement Histories “What agencies have bought products like yours in the past? Which companies have been awarded these contracts? How much have they been paid?” Answers to questions like these are necessary to guide a marketing strategy and gain a competitive edge. PTAC staff can help ask the right questions and get the information needed to succeed.
  • BidMatch Service BidMatch is an automated system that searches new federal, state, and local government contracting opportunities on a daily basis and delivers matching opportunities to your email inbox. The PTAC BidMatch service searches over 350 government websites nationally. This service can help expand your customer base by providing a daily internet listing of contract opportunities customized to your business, providing names of potential customers who buy your products and services, and providing subcontracting opportunities with primary contractors on major contracts. The BidMatch service provides an affordable, customized contracting opportunity search tool for clients of the PTAC.
  • Proposal Preparation A procurement specialist can help navigate even the most difficult solicitation package, including securing necessary specifications and drawings and determining pricing.
  • Contract Performance Issues After contract award, PTAC staff can assist with performance issues such as developing a costaccounting system, bonding and interim financing, developing environmental, quality control, and accident prevention plans.

Vivian Holder realized a lifelong dream of business ownership when she established Facility RX in March 2010. Having spent more than 25 years in the commercial furniture and facilities services industry, Holder decided that the San Antonio market was mature enough for an innovative, integrated facility services company.

Facility RX provides turnkey relocations, procurement services, integrated IT services, integrated A&D services, project management services, and warehousing. Facility RX is founded on principles of sustainability and was honored for this commitment with the San Antonio Business Journal’s “Going Green” 2012 Entrepreneurial Venture of the Year.

Holder first approached the UTSA Institute for Economic Development to attend sustainable business seminars. Through the company’s work with the Institute, Facility RX has utilized the services of many different programs.

Our needs have gradually become more complex and due to the efforts of the UTSA SBDC PTAC, we have not missed a beat.  It is almost like they are intuitive in knowing what we need as we grow

In particular, the UTSA SBDC Procurement Technical Assistance Center’s Employer Services Program staff, Holder and the Facility RX team worked to develop effective and compliant HR policies and procedures to meet the needs of the growing company.

Holder said that the assistance with employment policies, manuals, job descriptions, and compensation information gave the company a level of preparedness that typically comes with years of experience. SBDC PTAC staff provided assistance extending from human resources to personal and professional development for the company’s leadership team. Today, the Facility RX team regularly recommends the services of the SBDC PTAC to other business owners seeking assistance in starting or growing their business.

Calvo also received assistance from Project Manager, Deirdre Pattillo, on employee relations, job description development, research compensation plans, and compliancy strategies to meet regulatory requirements for contracting opportunities. Prosperitus Solutions is a small disadvantaged, woman and veteran owned business that specializes in professional staffing with core competencies in medical, logistics and information technology. The company’s first contract was awarded by Joint Base Fort Sam Houston, where they were responsible for logistical warehousing and administrative duties. The contract allowed Prosperitus Solutions to hire 16 personnel, represented a $3 million increase in services provided and helped the company reach the government market they targeted.

Working with such a group of talented individuals not only enables a path to success for businesses but it empowers us.

With a surprisingly quick start, the company was motivated to keep the momentum moving. Management at Prosperitus contacted the UTSA SBDC PTAC for one-on-one advising sessions and goal-setting with Project Manager, Sheriley Smith, in addition to business classes that helped build a solid team and networking circle.
